Name: Fred
Age:  about 37
Occupation: Van driver/delivery person for Federal Express (FedEx).  Also, Naval Reservist.
History:

When he got out of high school, the patriotic Fred joined the United States Navy and qualified for Seal training.  He showed great promise as a leader, but broke his left femur and tore some muscle tissue during a training session.  Reluctant to lose him, the Seals accelerated all parts of his training that did not require the use of his leg, but the muscle proved too slow to heal, and the Seals had to let him go when they couldn't keep him any longer in the classroom and he couldn't pass the physicals.  This training, however,  made him a valuable asset to his superiors in subsequent assignments, and there are many Naval officers who "owe" Fred for their promotions.

After being honorably discharged, the ambitious but unemployed Fred signed on as a van driver and delivery person with Federal Express, mainly for the therapy that the exercise would provide for his leg.  He also joined the Naval reserves, and eventually became a reservist officer thanks to his Seal training and contacts.  His FedEx career was unremarkable until he showed distinguished performance during an unusual assignment during October 31, 2000, the details of which remain a corporate trade secret of FedEx.

Fred is married and has two sons.  He would have liked a daughter, but missed having one when his wife miscarried at seven months.

Special Powers and Talents:
Fred's appeal is that he is a "normal" person who galliantly tries to adapt to the (occasionally) crazy world that is the Cybersix/Cyberstation RPGs.  He is flexible and has a fair sense of how the military and corporate worlds work.  However, he can be as stumped as the rest of us when confronted with the perverse craziness that these worlds display.  Nevertheless, he is a real patriot, and is ever ready to serve when his country or company calls.  It's just that some of those calls only confirm the ancient chinese curse of "May you live in interesting times."

In another sense, Fred would not be called "normal", because Seal training is reserved for extraordinary people.   He is a skilled marksman and can handle weaponry of any kind and sort.  He is a good squad leader.  Only distain for corporate politics and the desire for a physically active job are his reasons for not wanting to climb the corporate ladder.

Note to Reader:  My depictions of corporate life at FedEx only mirror what the average bottom-level corporate worker feels about his or her corporation.  Please don't think that Federal Express is somehow worse than the average american corporation.  They are a really good delivery service that the company I work for uses all the time if something just-has-to-get-there.

Note to FedEx: Please see above.  Also, please don't sue me: people will then only think that I might be right about you and not just joking.  Honestly, if you look at Fred, he's quite an exemplary employee.  And if the kids who interact with Fred on the RPGs can't help but have nice warm fuzzies when they see a FedEx van go by or a FedEx advertisement on TV, then that's good advertising for you, isn't it?
